Hopak

from CA$40.00

Hopak was an original Ukrainian folk dance that was originally of an improvised nature. The name is derived from “hopaty” which means, “to leap and stamp one’s feet”. The dance itself arose as an all-male Kozak dance and gradually spread throughout Ukraine. It is now considered the “National Dance of Ukraine”. This image collages the breathtaking movement of the energetic closing dance of a performance where men and women try to outdo each other with their spins and leaps. (Poltava/Central Ukraine)
